OUR HISTORY

Francis, José Félix and Marisa, fifth generation of the family,
tackle the transition to the XXI century.

THE HOTEL AND ITS HISTORY

In 1898, Pedro García and Andrea Echaurren decide to remodel their old coach house that served as a refueling stop for carriages. The imminent arrival of the railroad forced them to anticipate to the future, to refocus their business and where they had previously housed the stables and carriages, decided to install a dining hall taking advantage of the culinary virtues of aunt Andrea. With them, started this culinary tradition and hospitality that has endured for five generations.

Now their sons Francis, José Felix and Marisa, fifth generation of the family, have successfully made the transition to the twenty-first century, widening the culinary and experiential offer, which includes, besides the recently renovated hotel and restaurant Echaurren Tradición, a bistro, El Cuartito, a gastrobar, E-Tapas and a creative cuisine restaurant, El Portal, that was the first restaurant to get a Michelin star in the history of La Rioja. Since November 2013, they hold two Michelin stars, which places it among the best gastronomic restaurants in Spain.

Ezcaray offers through the whole year important cultural activities -the International Jazz Festival, the Mycology Conferences or its multiple traditions- in a historic and natural environment, that will transfer you to a world where emotions and new experiencies are always present.

EZCARAY CULTURE

The Villa of Ezcaray is a reference for the emotional turism in Spain. Its exceptional location, places it in a perfect settlement where the Camino de Santiago, the Riojan Wine Route and the Cradle of Castilian Language cross each other. The proximity to San Millán de la Cogolla (23 km), world heritage site, where the first Spanish words where written, to Santo Dominog de la Calzada (14 km), fundamental settlement of the Jacobean route or of the century wine cellar of the Haro Station Neighborhood (31 km), turn the River Oja Valley into one of the most attractive interior destinies of our country.

Echaurren Hotel can’t be indifferent to all of this culture and that’s why through the year we design a very wide cultural program, which includes historic and literature talks and debates, tastings, book releases, jazz concerts, ancient music, poetry readings, presentations, art exhibitions and cinema projections. EZCARAY NATURE

Ezcaray is a beautiful mountain village located in the heart of Iberian system, in the Demanda mountains nude the San Lorenzo peak (2.213 m).

You can walk through the calm streets with arcades, squares and great terraces. A place to enjoy of pleasant walks surrounded by an exultant nature.

During the winter months, the modern sky station of Vadezcaray is the best option; but during autumn, spring or summer, possibilities multiply. Activities such as mountain bike, hiking, fishing, hunting or golf find in this valley the perfect location to feel the contact with nature.

Hotel Echaurren gets involved in all of these activities and will help you in all we can offering a wide range of services that make your experience as pleasant as possible.

During the winter we offer you Alpine ski and telemark teachers. 

We organize all-terrain excursions to observe the fauna and flora of the Alta Valle del Oja.

You can rent ski material in the Hotel itself.

With us you will be able to book date and time to enjoy of the Rioja Alta Golf club.

We’ll provide and suggest itineraries, routes and walks and provide you of mountain guides too.

We can facilitate information about how to hire hot-air balloon routes.

Our last gastronomic proposal has found a place in the Chimney Living Room, next to the hotel reception. A great corner, where the chimney is the central axis during the winter and that, during the summer, opens its doors to a large terrace in the garden in front of the hotel.

This new space, refurbished and transformed thanks to the architecture studio Picado De Blas, is an open space for the public and turned into a Gastrobar for the dinner service with a complete menu that combines both small creations and tapas with a more well thought-out menu.

Many of the dishes of our menu are gluten free, however, we please ask you to tell the waiter, so we can increase the care in the kitchen. We can make other gluten free dishes from our menu under order. We have gluten free bread and beer.
We also inform you that in compliance with regulation (EU) 1169/2011 on food allergies and intolerances we have menus from the restaurant Echaurren Tradición with the necessary information in that matter.
All fishery products affected by Royal Decree 1420/2006 served in this establishment, comply with the terms established in such legislation.

E-Tapas Gastrobar is only opened for dinners. Closed for weekly rest on Sunday night, except in July and August, when the space won’t close any night.

Give your friends, your partner or your family members not only the occasion of enjoying of one of the best Spanish restaurants cuisine, but also the unique opportunity of living for a few hours the preparations of the service, together with the kitchen team of Francis Paniego.

The purchaser will receive a document which he or she can give as a gift to whom he or she considers. It’s not necessary to assign a particular addressee when buying the voucher. The experience will be available during one whole year from the date of purchase, always subject to hotel availability. Just make the reservation and indicate the code number assigned in the voucher when making your reservation and upon arrival deliver the voucher at the reception.
