EL PORTAL DE ECHAURREN

MICHELIN

El Portal is the gourmet restaurant, designed for the enjoyment of its highly creative concept cuisine. An ambitious spatial concept in which to unleash the imagination and creativity.

At the start this was quite a risky move in a village with just 2000 or so inhabitants. Today it boasts having been the first restaurant in La Rioja’s history to be awarded a star and also the first to have obtained a second Michelin star in this region.

ECHAURREN TRADICIÓN

It forms part of the history of traditional Rioja cuisine. The merit for this lies with our mother, Marisa Sánchez. She put together and promoted this restaurant’s menu, a bundle of unforgettable recipes which form the best legacy a mother can leave her children.

EZCARAY

Ezcaray is a natural paradise. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, with lush countryside at any time of year, it is the ideal destination to unwind and relax in. A pretty, welcoming village, with friendly inhabitants and one of the best food offers in La Rioja.

The Echaurren family

Marisa Sánchez, winner of the National Gastronomy Prize to Best Head Chef in 1987 and Medal for Merit at Work in 2008, has left us a wonderful legacy thanks to her talent, determination, experience and expertise in the kitchen.

Her memory will forever remain with us, her passion for her trade and her hard work are two of the foundation stones of this company, on which we will continue to build. Her croquettes became her trademark, but she also managed to capture our customers with her tasty, traditional dishes, using other recipes from our Rioja cuisine. Francis Paniego, chef and Marisa’s youngest son, has managed to take the baton from his mother, combining all her advice and wisdom to continue at the head of this century-old company.
