EL PORTAL DE ECHAURREN

El Portal is the gastronomic restaurant, conceived for and dedicated to the enjoyment of the most conceptual cuisine. An ambitious space where imagination and creativity are given free rein.

In its early days, it was far from an easy venture in a small village of barely 2,000 inhabitants. Today, it proudly holds the distinction of being the first restaurant in La Rioja’s history to earn a Michelin star, and also the first to be awarded a second Michelin star in the region.

ECHAURREN TRADICIÓN

It is part of the history of traditional Riojan cuisine. That merit belongs to our mother, Marisa Sánchez. She gathered and skillfully passed on to this restaurant’s menu a collection of unforgettable recipes, representing the finest legacy a mother can leave to her children.

EZCARAY

Ezcaray is a natural paradise. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes and lush nature in every season, it is the ideal destination to unwind and rest. A welcoming, charming village with warm people and one of the finest gastronomic traditions in La Rioja.

THE ECHAURREN FAMILY

Marisa Sánchez, National Gastronomy Award for Best Head Chef in 1987 and recipient of the Medal for Merit in Work in 2008, left us a wonderful legacy through her talent, character, experience, and culinary mastery.

Her memory will always remain with us. Her passion for her work and her dedication are the two main pillars on which this house was built and on which we will continue to grow. Her croquettes became her hallmark, but she also won over our guests with her cuisine rooted in flavor and tradition, expressed through many other recipes from Riojan gastronomy. Francis Paniego, chef and Marisa’s youngest son, has taken up his mother’s mantle, bringing together all her guidance and wisdom to continue leading this century-old house.
